Welcome to the Functional Cognitive Activities
website!
This is an introduction for how to use the website for those of you
who have never attended a
Functional
Cognitive Activities seminar or viewed the Occupation Based
Cognitive Rehab webinar
.
It is important that you understand 3 key principles below
before using this website.
1. Activities are based on 8 hierarchical levels of
cognitive functioning.
a. This comparison chart will
help you to understand the 8 levels in relation to 3 widely used
systems:
Allen Cognitive
Levels, Rancho Los Amigos Scale and the Global Deterioration
Scale
b. Use the Functional Cognitive
Activities Evaluation Scale to determine what level activities
to use with people.
2. Activities are centered around helping the person to become aware
of and then manage 3 global elements of cognitive
functioning:
a. Interpersonal skills (which includes
self awareness)
b. Time (time parameters, time limits)
c. Environment (physical space and
personal belongings)
3. Tasks and Activities suggested within the website should be
viewed as templates to get you started.
a. You may not have the same equipment, materials
or worksheets that are referred to within the website.
b. So if you do not have the same items suggested
on the website, you will have to substitute your own.
c. The worksheets and activities are downloadable
- and then can be edited to meet your purposes.
d. There are Therapy Task Kits for purchase that
you can incorporate into your therapy sessions to complement the
website.
Thank you for using the Functional Cognitive Activities website!
