Introduction to Socialization Activities
The activities in this section are aimed towards helping to "break
the ice"
for those who need to practice appropriate social interaction.
Appropriate socialization is an important
process in the road to
developing self awareness as the person begins to understand
how they come across to others as well as how others view them.
The goal with these activities is to help the
person initiate interaction
by providing them concrete tasks to use as "conversation
starters".
When starting out it is important to have the person practice in a
supportive environment
where there are understanding people who can help guide the person
be successful.
Once the person begins to be more comfortable in social interaction,
he can branch out to interacting with less familiar people in less
structured settings.
To start:
The therapist prints the assignment for the day.
He assigns the person a specific number of people to address
during the session.
To make the activity more demanding the therapist can have the person
interrupt the session at designated time points.
